Q1: What are the legal considerations of which a teacher must be aware when implementing technologies in the classroom? Explain each consideration and the step(s) you would take in your own classroom to ensure that you do not violate the law.
A1: The legal issues related to technology integration in the classroom include acceptable use, copyright, piracy, right to privacy. School districts' acceptable use policies outline the parameters for using technology in schools. Teachers who abide by these parameters can avoid legal issues related to technology. Teachers should be familiar with and enforce their school's computer code of ethics. Filtering software can help prevent students from accessing inappropriate content on school's computers. Parental controls can also be used to block inappropriate sites and restrict downloads and viewing times. ADA laws require equal use of technology for students. Teachers must promote fairness when using technology in the classroom. Educators must also educate students on what is acceptable and unacceptable computer use. By getting parental consent to post any students' work, you can promote children's right to privacy.
This week I had to use scoop it and tag resources to an image on thing link. These resources were easy to use and I can see their usefulness in the classroom. I will definitely be using ThingLink in the future.
